چکیده

We revive the long standing Boltzmann-Loschmidt polemic which confronts irreversible Thermodynamics with reversible Mechanics. While this is solved within classical physics by the theory of Chaos, until now, there is no quantum de ̄nition of dynamical chaos. A nice possibility o®ered by NMR is to invert the direction of time (quantum Loschmidt daemon) in a many-body spin system. The e±ciency of this reversion MPE(tR) decays with the elapsed time tR before reversal, with a characteristic irreversibility time ¿Á. What controls this time? By changing the time scales of the system in several ways, we observe cases where ¿Á is determined by the reversible spin-spin interactions. A natural de ̄nition of quantum chaos in our experimental context is the instability of dynamical quantum correlations with respect to in ̄nitesimal perturbations in the Hamiltonian. Therefore, our whole set of experiments indicates that there is quantum chaos intrinsic to the many-body spin dynamics in the thermodynamic limit. It manifests as an instability towards perturbations (decoherence) with a ¿Á independent on how small the interaction with the environment is. We also argue that ¡ ln[MPE(tR)] represents a measure of the increasing entropy. This new evidence in support to Boltzmann's physical insight also serves as a landmark to direct the theoretical and experimental work in the new ̄eld of quantum chaos.

Towards a time-revesal mirror for quantum systems

The reversion of the time evolution of a quantum state can be achieved by changing the sign of the Hamiltonian as in the polarization echo experiments in NMR. The efficiency of this instantaneous global action is limited by the instability of the classical dynamics. In this work, we describe an alternative gedanken mechanism inspired by the acoustic time reversal mirror. The idea is to achieve ...

I solved Loschmidt ’ s Paradox

A guy named Johann Loschmidt criticized a guy named Ludwig Boltzmann in 1876 (at least that’s when it was published). Today this is known as Loschmidt’s Paradox. Many science fans learn of the second law of thermodynamics and the arrow of time: entropy increases in the future but not the past. Or dS dt > 0. At the same time, fundamental physical theories like quantum electrodynamics (accurate t...

Decoherence and Noise in Loschmidt Echo Experiments

We discuss some recent results concerning the decoherence in controlled quantum open systems within the mathematical setting corresponding to motion reversal experiments (the Loschmidt echo). We compare the case of randomly chosen sequence of unitary dynamical maps with the case of a constant dynamics corresponding to a classically chaotic evolution. The interplay between chaos and decoherence ...

A Novel Approach for Optimization of Transportation Problem in Chaos Environment

Nature is characterized by its chaotic behavior. Mathematics is considered one of the appropriate tools to achieve the best definition of possible its chaos variables and process. Classical mathematics deals with the numbers as static and meaningless, but chaos mathematics deals with it as dynamic evolutionary, and value- added. This paper attempts to introduce the transportation problem re...
